Haywood Louis Hamill

Mr. Haywood Louis Hamill of Enfield slipped into eternal rest on Thursday, June 18, 2009, with his wife at his side, at their residence, Heathsville Haven.

He was born November 3, 1919. Mr. Hamill was an active member of Antioch Baptist Church where he attended all services of the Spring Revival last week. He has served as Deacon, Sunday School Director, and Chairman of various committees. He was also a former member of the Elks Lodge in Rocky Mount, and a member of Scotfield Country Club, and the V.F.W. He enlisted in the U. S. Navy on November 4, 1941, and was on active duty at sea for four years during WWII, during which time he visited all six continents. He spent most of his life as a master barber in shops in Enfield and Weldon.

Mr. Hamill was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. & Mrs. F. R. Hamill; his brothers, Edward L. Hamill and Ferdie Ray Hamill; and his sisters, Katie H. Draper and Clydeen H. Alford.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 62 years, Kathryne Kanoy Hamill of the home; his brother-in-law, Albert N. Hamill of Colorado Springs, CO; his sisters-in-law, Betty L. Hamill of Enfield, Louise M. Hamill of Littleton, and Janet R. Kanoy of Felton, Del; and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Life will be held at Antioch Baptist Church on Sunday, June 21, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. The service will be conducted by the pastor, Rev. Susan A. Joyce. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military rites.

A visitation will be held Saturday, June 20, 2009 at Askew Funeral & Cremation Services, 731 Roanoke Ave, Roanoke Rapids from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. and other times at the home.

Flowers are welcome and memorial gifts may be given to Antioch Baptist Church, 4070 Heathsville Road, Enfield, NC 27823.

The flag in front of the funeral home flies at half-staff in honor of Mr. Hamill’s service to his country.
